Manuel Garcia-Herreros

Manuel Garcia-Herreros (DVM, PhD) currently is a Senior Researcher focused on Livestock Production Systems in the National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research (INIAV, Portugal). His research interest over the last 20 years includes tropical and alpine production systems related to sustainable strategies and economic development of rural communities. Socio-economic studies based on dairy production based on natural pastures and forages and a balance between livestock productivity, biodiversity and agroforestry ecosystem conservation are priority in his research. Circular-economy strategies for food production avoiding forestry degradation and the impact of climate change on marginal agroforestry ecosystems management are research priorities as well. At present he is a scientific advisor for 9 government institutions in Mesoamerican and South American countries (México, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Perú, Paraguay and Colombia).
